THE ROLE OF GUT MICROBIOTA IN AUTOIMMUNE DISORDERS: CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS
Main Article Content
Abstract
The gut microbiota plays a pivotal role in maintaining immune homeostasis and modulating autoimmune diseases. Emerging evidence highlights the complex interactions between gut microbial communities and host immune responses, influencing the pathogenesis of autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and inflammatory bowel disease. This review synthesizes recent findings focusing on the gut microbiota’s role in autoimmune disease onset and progression with an emphasis on clinical implications in the Pakistani population. Therapeutic interventions, including probiotics, prebiotics, and fecal microbiota transplantation, are also discussed as promising approaches for managing autoimmune disorders by targeting gut dysbiosis.
